2015 Lumen Christi Award

Catholic Extension has announced the nominees for the 2015 Lumen Christi Award, and the results of recent voting will be available on Facebook.

Every year, Catholic Extension’s Lumen Christi Award honors an individual or group working in one of America’s mission dioceses who demonstrates how the power of faith can transform lives and communities. This year, Anne Butta has been nominated from the AMS. Anne has worked as the coordinator of religious education at the United States Naval Academy since the 2004-05 school year. In that time more than 1,400 children have participated in religious education there and 233 adults have taken part in the adult education classes to convert to Catholicism.

Anne’s consistent daily efforts allow people with extremely full schedules to be well equipped to serve. In addition to maintaining the practical needs of the military Catholic faith community she is a trusted mentor that young adult Midshipmen have come to rely on. Through humble service Anne puts the needs of others at the forefront of her ministry. She facilitates a successful ministry of service that encourages the gifts of others while also meeting the pastoral needs of the larger Catholic faith community.

The recipient of the Lumen Christi Award will receive a grant of $50,000 in funding for their ministry.
