Rosary to End the Pandemic

“…prayer by the church was fervently being made to God…”

-Acts of the Apostles 12:5

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Pope Francis invites Catholics and Marian Shrines around the world to dedicate the month of May to a marathon of prayer for an end to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This initiative will involve all the Shrines of the world in a special way, so that they might encourage the faithful, families, and communities to recite the Rosary to pray for an end to the pandemic.

Pope Francis will open the Marian month of prayer on 1 May with a Rosary broadcast across Vatican Media’s platforms.  During the event, the Pope will also bless rosaries to be sent to 30 Marian shrines around the world.  Each day, there will be a Vatican News broadcast of the recitation of the Rosary at 6 PM Rome time from the various Shines taking part in the initiative.

Local Shrines Will Lead the Rosary

Marian shrines around the world have been chosen by the Holy See to lead the rosary each day of the month.  In the United States, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. has been asked to lead the rosary on Monday, May 17. Cardinal Wilton Gregory, archbishop of Washington, will lead the recitation of the rosary at 12:00 PM ET that day for the special intention of world leaders and the heads of international organizations as they continue to work to combat the pandemic.
