AMS Chrism Mass to be Celebrated Thursday

Archbishop to bless sacramental oils in evening celebration at National Shrine

WASHINGTON, D.C. – His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, USA (AMS), will celebrate the annual Chrism Mass at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 29, in the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Michigan Avenue, Northeast, Washington, D.C.

The Chrism Mass is held once a year to bless the oils that will be used for baptism, confirmation and the anointing of the sick throughout the coming year at military installations, Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers and other locations served by the AMS around the world. The Oil of Catechumens and Oil of the Sick will be blessed; the Sacred Chrism which is used for Confirmation and Ordinations will be consecrated.

Concelebrating the Mass with Archbishop Broglio will be Auxiliary Bishops Richard Higgins, F. Richard Spencer and Neal Buckon, along with about 30 priests.

The Chrism Mass is open to the public.
