Archdiocese Holds First-Ever Virtual Advent Retreat for Catholic Faith Leaders on U.S. Military Installations Worldwide

WASHINGTON, DC — Advent, the four-week liturgical season before Christmas, is a time of waiting, conversion, and hopeful preparation as Catholics journey together toward celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. This year, Advent began on Nov. 28, and for the first time ever, the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), held a Virtual Advent Retreat for those leading the journey on U.S. Military installations worldwide. On Dec. 1, more than 50 U.S. Military-affiliated catechists, coordinators of religious education (CREs), Catholic pastoral life coordinators, priests, and others based throughout the United States and in countries from Europe and the Middle East to Asia came together on Zoom for the 90-minute retreat focused on prayer and reflection in preparation for the Lord’s coming. The same retreat was conducted twice in one day—at 6:00 a.m. ET and again at 2:00 p.m. ET—giving participants in all time zones a convenient option.

Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, Kicks Off 2022 National Collection at Annual Benefit

WASHINGTON, DC – The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), availed itself of the Solemnity of Christ the King, the final Sunday of the liturgical year, to support the evangelization efforts in the military.  At the same time its 2022 National Collection campaign was kicked off. The collection, to be taken up in Catholic parishes throughout the United States at weekend Masses Nov. 5-6, 2022, will support pastoral care and ministry to Catholic families stationed worldwide in the U.S. Military and Catholic patients in Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Centers throughout the country.

Knights of Columbus Volunteers Deliver First of 100,000 Copies of Armed with the Faith Catholic Prayer Book to Active-Duty Military Personnel

WASHINGTON, DC – On Nov. 9, Knights of Columbus volunteers, including some serving in the military, delivered the first of 100,000 copies of the new 6th edition of the Armed with the Faith Catholic prayer book to the Edwin Cardinal O’Brien Pastoral Center in Washington, D.C., home base for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The prayer books will be sent to active-duty U.S. Military personnel serving our country around the world.

Prospective Catholic U.S. Navy Chaplain Ordained Transitional Deacon in Rome

ROME – The Reverend Mr. Bradley David Easterbrooks, a candidate for the Catholic priesthood and United States Military chaplaincy, was ordained a transitional deacon on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, at the Altar of the Chair in the Papal Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican.  He hopes eventually to serve as an active-duty chaplain in the U.S. Navy with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS).

Archdiocese Offers Renewal to Catechists for Evangelization

WASHINGTON, DC – On Tuesday, Oct. 19, the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), will host a virtual convocation of catechists in service to the U.S. Military. The purpose is to catalyze catechetical leaders in their commitment to help others live and preach the Gospel.  It will also offer them the possibility of making a contribution to the Synod 2021-2023, a process of discernment, initiated by the Bishop of Rome, in which the people of God are called to pray and reflect on the will of the Holy Spirit for the Church.

Pilgrimage for the Sea Services Draws Crowd to National Shrine of Elizabeth Ann Seton

EMMITSBURG, MD – The National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton welcomed nearly 350 visitors on Sunday for its annual Pilgrimage for the Sea Services. This year for the first time the pilgrimage Mass was broadcast live on EWTN. The Most Reverend Neal J. Buckon, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), himself a retired commissioned officer and chaplain in the U.S. Army, was the principal celebrant and homilist.

Catholic Military Couples Gather in Atlanta for Marriage Enrichment Retreat

ATLANTA, GA – Eight Catholic couples based at U.S. Military installations throughout the southern United States spent the weekend in Atlanta, GA, on a Marriage Enrichment Retreat sponsored by the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The Oct. 1-3 retreat took place at the Ignatius House Jesuit Retreat Center on a quiet spot in the woods along the Chattahoochee River. The retreat was facilitated by Dr. Mark Moitoza, Th.D., D. Min., AMS Vice-Chancellor for Evangelization. His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., was on hand,  and celebrated Holy Mass with the couples.
