Beatification of Pope Paul VI

Pope Francis officially declared Pope Paul VI Blessed on Sunday, Oct. 19, during the closing ‎Mass of the 3rd Extraordinary Synod of Bishops on the family. Pope Paul VI, who made Pope Benedict XVI a cardinal, is most well known for steering and implementing the Second Vatican Council. His papal tiara, which he famously sold so that the proceeds could be given to charity, now resides in the Crypt of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immactulate Conception in Washington DC. Archbishop Broglio celebrated a Mass of Thanksgiving for Pope Paul’s Beatification at this Shrine on Sunday, Oct. 19. The Mass was broadcast live globally on EWTN.
