Bishop Estabrook Laid to Rest with Full Military Honors

Saturday burial in Albany, New York follows funeral Mass in Alexandria, Virginia

WASHINGTON, D.C. – His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services (AMS), received the body of Auxiliary Bishop Joseph W. Estabrook into the Church of the Good Shepherd in Alexandria, Virginia and presided at the Office for the Dead on Thursday evening, February 9, 2012. The Most Reverend Paul S. Loverde, Bishop of Arlington, delivered the homily. The following morning, Archbishop Broglio celebrated the funeral Mass before transferral of the body to Bishop Estabrook’s home town of Albany, New York for burial.

Bishop Estabrook, Episcopal Vicar for the Eastern Region of the United States, died February 4 in Houston, Texas following a lengthy illness. He was 67.

Interment with full military honors followed a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by the Most Reverend Howard J. Hubbard, Bishop of Albany, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

Bishop Estabrook is survived by his mother, Genevieve, brother Timothy and his wife, Giselle, and by his sister Mary Ann and her husband, William. He is the son of the late J. Walter Estabrook formerly of Albany, N.Y. He has several nieces and nephews, William, Julianne, and Joseph Tortolano and Michael and Giselle Marie Estabrook. He also has numerous cousins and family members who reside in Saugerties, N.Y., and Hoosick Falls, N.Y.
