The title of Pope Francis’s newest encyclical Laudato Si takes its name from Saint Francis of Assisi’s “Canticle of Creatures.” Each line of this prayer of thanks to God for the gift of creation begins with the phrase “Laudato si,” meaning “Praised be.” The pope has expressed that this document be shared open-heartedly with everyone – not just Catholics.
