Pope Speaks to Military Chaplains

On Monday, October 26, Pope Francis addressed participants of the Fourth Course for the Formation of Military Chaplains on International Humanitarian Law in Rome.  Pope Francis said it is appropriate to wonder how to treat the spiritual wounds of soldiers who have witnessed atrocities during war.  He spoke about the “specific pastoral attention” required by those in the military and their families which would allow them “to feel the maternal presence of the Church.”  He continued, saying, “The role of the chaplain is to accompany them and support them in their journey, as a fraternal and comforting presence.”
