“The wicked said among themselves, thinking not aright: ‘Let us beset the just one, because he is obnoxious to us; he sets himself against our doings…” (Ws 2: 1)
The book of Wisdom does just that, gives us wisdom to live our lives. In today’s first reading, we hear that those who are wicked see holy people as annoying, precisely because the holy people live their lives in such a way as to chafe the wicked. The Church knows this experience well. Whether it is celibacy for priests or the dignity of unborn life, the world mocks us and often persecutes us because our lives and views bother the status quo. Today ask God to help you remember a past argument, when you were irritated by someone’s holiness, and see how you can change.
