Making a Planned Estate Gift

An example of how we are to manage our affairs is seen with the “good and faithful servant” that our Lord commends in the Gospel of Matthew (Mt 25:23). We invite you to give this passage prayerful thought as you reflect on your personal planning.

One way you can do this is to help further the mission of the Archdiocese for the Military Services by making an estate gift of a specific amount or a percentage of your final estate to help others come to know Jesus better.

Gift Options

The tax benefits to you and your heirs will vary depending upon the type of gift you choose and the assets in your estate. Please consult your financial or legal advisor before making any gift. Gift options include:

  • Bequests from your will or trust
  • Beneficiary Designations from investment, retirement or life insurance accounts
  • Charitable Remainder Trusts

A Gift of Life Insurance ("Whole Life") Policy

Your gift to the Archdiocese of a paid-up policy is tax-deductible. If a new policy is taken out with the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA as irrevocable beneficiary, the premium payments are tax-deductible.

Beneficiary Designation

You may designate the AMS as a beneficiary of your IRA, savings account or investment accounts. IRAs and other Retirement accounts may be subject to income taxes when one dies and gifting these assets may avoid these taxes.

Wills and Trusts

There are a variety of different strategies that can help you to make meaningful gifts while enabling you to satisfy family financial obligations. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please contact the Archdiocese’s Development Office at (202) 719-3622 or Support@milarch.org

Planned Giving

Planning and preparation are inherent characteristics of those who have served in the military. The AMS has prepared a Catholic Estate and Personal Planning Workbook that helps individuals or families to properly plan estate and personal affairs. You may request a free copy of the workbook by contacting Support@milarch.org or (202) 719-3622.
