2014

  • January 1st (Wednesday) - Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God

  • May 29th  (Thursday) - Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord* - this Solemnity is transferred to the Seventh Sunday of Easter, June 1st, see the Ordo for the proper readings for May 29th and June 1st

  • August 15th (Friday) - Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

  • November 1st (Saturday) - Solemnity of All Saints [not a Holyday of Obligation this year because it falls on a Saturday]

  • December 8th (Monday) - Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Patronal Feastday of the United States of America

  • December 25th (Thursday) - Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord

*Notes for the celebration of the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord 2014:

1) When the Ascension of the Lord is celebrated the following Sunday, the Second Reading and Gospel from the Seventh Sunday of Easter (see no. 59) may be read on the Sixth Sunday of Easter.

2) Regarding the Ascension of the Lord, the ecclesiastical provinces of Boston, Hartford, New York, Newark, Omaha, and Philadelphia have retained its celebration on the proper Thursday, while all other provinces have transferred this Solemnity to the Seventh Sunday of Easter, June 1. If transferred, Thursday, May 29 is observed as an Easter Weekday. The following readings are used: Acts 18:1-8/Jn 16:16-20 (294).

  • May 14th  (Thursday) - Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord, this Solemnity is transferred to Sunday, May 17th

  • August 15th (Saturday) - Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary [not a Holyday of Obligation because it falls on a Saturday]

  • November 1st (Sunday) - Solemnity of All Saints

  • December 8th (Tuesday) - Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Patronal Feastday of the United States of America

  • December 25th (Friday) - Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord
