The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA seeks applicants for Director, Office of Faith Formation.  The full-time position will serve priest-chaplains, catechetical leaders and volunteers throughout the archdiocese with an emphasis on religious education corresponding to grades one through and including eight. 

Job Description


The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA is the nation’s only archdiocese responsible for endorsing priests for on-site ministry at more than 200 locations throughout the country and around the world to Catholics and their families in the U.S. armed forces, VA Medical Centers and overseas civilian posts. Worldwide, an estimated 1.5 million Catholics depend on the AMS and its endorsed priests to serve their spiritual and sacramental needs.

The Director, Office for Faith Formation supports priest-chaplains, catechetical leaders and volunteers regarding programs and resources to provide consistent and comprehensive Catholic faith formation initiatives at U.S. military installations. This position will promote, manage, and track the catechist certification process for religious education coordinators and volunteers. Responsibilities include maintaining professional relationship with national ministry related organizations to advocate for the needs of active duty members, military-connected youth and families. The Director will maintain the database of religious education coordinators and volunteers who change frequently due to the transient nature of military life. A key focus of this position will be to maintain regular contact with religious education coordinators to support, resource and enhance their on-site catechetical practices. The Director will develop an online archive of catechetical resources to assist new religious education coordinators at U.S. military installations.


Job Requirements


The applicant must have a Master's Degree in Theology, Religious Studies or equivalent from an accredited Catholic institution.  The position requires excellent written, oral communication, social media, content management system and database skills.  Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.  The ideal applicant must have a deep knowledge of the Catholic faith along with diocesan and/or parish ministry leadership experience.  The ideal applicant will also have a working knowledge of the military.  Diocesan experience (at least three years) preferred, coordinator of religious education experience (at least five years) required.  The applicant must possess a high level of organizational and interpersonal skills.  The position is based in Washington, DC and requires some travel.  Send resume with a cover letter via e-mail to jschlageter@milarch.org.  Resumes will be accepted through February 10, 2012.
