Year of Faith

In his Apostolic Letter Porta Fidei, Pope Benedict calls for a Year of Faith to be celebrated beginning on October 11, 2012, the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council and the twentieth anniversary of the publication of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and concluding on November 24, 2013, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King.

year of faith official logoThe Vatican has created a Year of Faith web site with information and resources. The logo for the event is the image of a ship, which symbolizes the Church. The mast of the vessel is a cross with full-blown sails which form the monogram of Christ (IHS), and in the background is a sun representing the Eucharist.

  • Cannonization of seven maryrs – Oct 21, 2012
  • Holy Father imparting Sacrament of Confirmation to a group of youth – April 28, 2013
  • Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at the same time world wide on the feast of Corpus Cristi- June 2, 2013
  • Sunday dedicated to the Gospel of Life – June 16, 2013
  • Day dedicated to catechists on 20th anniversary of the publication of the Catechism – Sep 29, 2013
  • Day to focus on the presence of Mary in the Church – Oct 13, 2013
  • Closing celebration of the Year of Faith – Nov 24, 2013
