WASHINGTON, D.C.—The families of Catholics on active duty in the U.S. Military now have free access to an internet platform providing online games, videos, songs, lessons, quizzes, challenges, and other innovative tools to support pre-K-through-12 religious education.  The portal, sponsored by the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), is called AMS Family Witness to ChristIt is powered by, a website founded in 2017 by a devout Catholic parent and catechist with help and direction from school teachers, priests, and education consultants. The platform is accessible at Families interested in using it may obtain the AMS code to register from the priest or coordinator of religious education (CRE) at their respective military installations.

In a welcome message on the login page, His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, notes the platform “is designed to engage families at home and equip them with knowledge of their Catholic faith.” He explains:  “The new Directory for Catechesis, n. 227, affirms that catechesis within the family is ‘a Christian education more witnessed to than taught, more occasional than systematic, more ongoing than structured into periods.’ It is my hope that this tool will support the faith formation and spiritual growth of families throughout the Archdiocese so that they may effectively ‘bear witness to the Gospel in society’ (DC, n. 231).”

AMS Family Witness to Christ is chockfull of participatory instructional aids meant to encourage growth in the Catholic faith by making it fun for kids to learn. The games, for instance, include a name match puzzle covering a wide range of Catholic topics including the life and person of Jesus Christ, the Bible, the Catholic Church, the Ten Commandments, the Creed, the sacraments, prayer, sin, and penance. The video library offers dozens of animated videos illustrating stories of the Old and New Testaments, Sunday Gospels, saints, and more.  The song repertory brims with singalongs on topics ranging from Advent and Christmas, the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary, prayer, and walking with Jesus.

Mr. José Amaya, AMS Director of Faith Formation, said “by virtue of their baptism parents are the primary catechists of their children. How can parents effectively accompany their children in their faith journey unless they too are accompanied with tools they need to share this precious gift of faith? The new platform will equip parents with digital resources and lessons to share the gift of faith with their children and to learn the beauty of faith together as a family. Just as the Archdiocesan Religion Curriculum Guide, Forming Disciples for the New Evangelization, calls the catechists and catechetical leaders to make disciples for the new evangelization, this new platform invites families to be witnesses of Jesus Christ in the world today.”

AMS Family Witness to Christ is free to active-duty Catholic military families and will be available 24/7 year-round. With this new platform now in service, the old AMS Family Faith Assessment powered by has been discontinued as of August 2020. For more information, families should consult their installation’s priest or CRE, or contact Mr. Amaya at or (202) 719-3600.
