His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the United States Military Services, will be the main celebrant and homilist.

Father Daniel L. Mode, CHC (CAPT), USN, Assumes Watch as New Chaplain of the U.S. Coast Guard

WASHINGTON, DC — On Wednesday, April 20, Father Daniel L. Mode, CHC (CAPT), USN, assumed watch as the new Chaplain of the U.S. Coast Guard, the service’s top-ranking officer for religious ministry. The induction took place in a 90-minute Change of Watch ceremony at Coast Guard headquarters in southeast Washington. Father Mode relieves Rev. Thomas J. Walcott of the Christian Reformed Church, who is retiring from military service after 28 years, the last four of which he served as Chaplain of the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard relies on the U.S. Navy to provide ministry and pastoral care to more than 40,000 “Coasties” on active duty and their families along with thousands of reservists, civilians, and auxiliarists. Both Father Mode and Rev. Walcott are Navy chaplains.

NEW YORK, NY – Castletown Media has partnered with the Interfaith Broadcasting Commission to release the feature length documentary, The Field Afar, about Servant of God, Father Vincent Capodanno, MM, to select ABC-TV affiliates throughout the United States. Vice Admiral P. Stephen Stanley, USN (Ret.), Appointed Board Chairman of Father Vincent Capodanno Guild

WASHINGTON, DC –Vice Admiral P. Stephen Stanley, USN (Ret.), has been appointed Chairman of the governing board of the Father Vincent Capodanno Guild. The Guild is a private Catholic Church association and not-for-profit corporation established in 2013 to promote the Cause for Canonization of Father Vincent R. Capodanno, MM, Servant of God. Father Capodanno, a U.S. Navy chaplain lieutenant, was killed in action during the Vietnam War while anointing and aiding U.S. Marines in combat against the North Vietnamese army. The Maryknoll priest from Staten Island, NY, posthumously received the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military decoration. The Holy See’s Congregation for the Causes of Saints is now considering his Cause. Should the Congregation deem Father Capodanno’s Cause worthy to proceed with canonization, he will next be beatified and then declared a saint.

Father Vincent Capodanno a Worthy Example for the Catholic Church in Troubled Times, Archbishop Broglio Says

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Vietnam War hero Father Vincent R. Capodanno, M.M., (1929-1967),  a Catholic U.S. Navy chaplain killed in action while supporting Marines under enemy gunfire, could well serve as a good example for the Church as it deals with the abuse crisis, according to the Archbishop for the Military Services, USA. His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., made that observation in his homily last night at a memorial Mass for the slain priest on the 51st anniversary of his death in combat. “He cared for the vulnerable,” Archbishop Broglio said, “because the Marines were under attack. He imitated his Lord by giving his life so that others might live.”

Film on Vietnam War Hero Father Vincent R. Capodanno Named Winner of 2018 Gabriel Award

WASHINGTON, DC – The film Called and Chosen – Father Vincent R. Capodanno has been named winner of a 2018 Gabriel Award from the Catholic Press Association. The 90-minute film, which premiered on EWTN August 30, 2017, explores the life of the Maryknoll missionary-turned-military-chaplain who died a hero in combat during the Vietnam War. Father Capodanno was killed by enemy gunfire on Sept. 4, 1967, at the age of 38 in Vietnam’s Quế Sơn Valley, administering the sacraments to embattled U.S. Marines and pulling the wounded to safety. He posthumously received the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military decoration.  His Cause of Canonization has been opened by the Catholic Church.
