Dates Announced for 2018 “Warriors to Lourdes” Spiritual Journey

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Military personnel, including the wounded, ill, and injured, are now invited to apply for an all-expenses-paid, round-trip journey to the Marian grotto and spring baths at Lourdes, France, during the 60th annual Pèlerinage Militaire International (PMI)—or “International Military Pilgrimage”—May 15 to 22, 2018. The PMI will draw tens of thousands of troops, veterans, and others from around the world to the famous Marian shrine where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. The theme for the 60th PMI is Pacem in Terris (Peace on Earth).

WASHINGTON, D.C.—In September, the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), takes time to remember the brave service members listed as Prisoners of War (POW) or Missing in Action (MIA).  In a letter to the AMS faithful, His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, invites everyone to remember those individuals and their families in their prayers, or offer the Divine Mercy Chaplet for all people listed as POW or MIA.

Archbishop Broglio Celebrates Annual Mass for the Repose of Father Vincent Capodanno on 50th Anniversary of Death

WASHINGTON, D.C.—His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, USA, celebrated the annual Mass for the repose of Father Vincent R. Capodanno, M.M. (1929-1967), Tuesday night on the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War hero’s death. An estimated 650 crowded into the crypt church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception for the 6:30 p.m. Mass—so many that 250 temporary seats had to be set up to accommodate the overflow congregation.

Knights of Columbus Assembly Donates $10,000 for Formation of Future Catholic U.S. Military Chaplains

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A local assembly of the Knights of Columbus (K of C) has donated more than $10,000 to the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), to support the formation of future Catholic U.S. Military chaplains. Archbishop Michael J. Curley Assembly #383 of College Park, MD, raised the money in a year-long “pass the helmet” campaign at local parishes. On Saturday, assembly leaders James D. Williams, Jr., and Arthur H. Blenkle presented the check for $10,083.49 to His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, USA, at the Edwin Cardinal O’Brien Pastoral Center in Washington.

Co-Sponsored Seminarian Enrollment Rises to 43 as Back-to-School Season Attracts Prospective New Catholic Military Chaplains

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Back-to-school season brings promise of relief for a severe Catholic chaplain shortage in the U.S. Military. Among the several hundred prospective priests entering American seminaries for the first time this fall, no fewer than seven plan, after ordination, to go on active duty as chaplains. Additionally, at least another four U.S. Catholic seminarians in various advanced stages of formation have decided this year to pursue military chaplaincy, and have made a commitment to “serve those who serve” as priests in the armed forces.
