Co-Sponsored Seminarians Celebrate Labor Day Weekend in Nation’s Capital

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Thirty prospective Catholic U.S. Military chaplains from 23 dioceses and one religious community assembled in the Nation’s Capital over the weekend for the annual Labor Day Weekend Gathering for Co-Sponsored Seminarians. The gathering, hosted each year by the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), is a three-day celebration of prayer, fraternity, and face-to-face dialogue between the chaplain candidates, AMS clergy and staff, and His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. ANCHORAGE, AK – Father Madison Hayes, 2d Lt, USAFR, a candidate for United States Military chaplaincy, was ordained a Catholic priest on Friday, Aug. 6, 2021, in Anchorage, AK. GREEN BAY, WI – Father Patrick G. Costello, LT, USNR, a 2013 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and a candidate for U.S. Military chaplaincy, was ordained a Catholic priest on Saturday, July 3, in Green Bay, WI. He hopes eventually to serve as a Navy chaplain with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The new priest plans to go on active duty following a three-year period of pastoral service in his home Diocese of Green Bay under the co-sponsorship agreement between the Diocese and the AMS. Monsignor Jeffrey G. Laible Takes Profession of Faith and Oath of Fidelity as Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia

WASHINGTON, D.C. — It’s official: the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), has a new Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia. On Thursday, July 1, 2021, Monsignor Jeffrey G. Laible of the Diocese of Peoria, IL, made the requisite Profession of Faith and Oath of Fidelity as he assumes the new role. He succeeds Monsignor John J.M. Foster, J.C.D., who is returning to his home Diocese of Stockton, CA, to serve as pastor of the Cathedral of the Annunciation following eight years of productive service to the AMS.  Continue reading

Thirteen Men Gather for Discernment Retreat on Possible Vocations as U.S. Military Chaplains

WASHINGTON, DC — Thirteen men from many service branches of the United States Armed Forces will gather here this weekend for a June 24-27 discernment retreat aimed at helping them determine if they are called by the Holy Spirit to be Catholic priests and military chaplains. The Vocations Office of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), is holding the semi-annual retreat at Theological College, the national seminary of the Catholic University of America. The prospective chaplain candidates include three now serving in the Army, two in the Marine Corps, one in the Navy, two in the Air Force, and five civilians. Continue reading
