New Prayer Handbook Offers Chapter of Insights for Catholics in the U.S. Armed Forces

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As a retired U.S. Army chaplain, Auxiliary Bishop F. Richard Spencer has much to tell about prayer in battle. Now, Bishop Spencer is sharing some of his experiences in a published reflection. His ten-page chapter, “Military Postures in Prayer: Moments of Spiritual Intimacy,” appears in a hefty new hardback. The 617-page volume, edited by Robert J. Wicks, is called Prayer in the Catholic Tradition: A Handbook of Practical Approaches (Franciscan Media, 2016).

Army Beats Navy on Hail Mary

BALTIMORE – Army beat Navy Saturday on a Hail Mary. Not the “Hail Mary” pass that football fans know so well, but the real prayer. In the last ten minutes of the game in Baltimore, Father Matthew Pawlikowski knelt down on the sideline, joining other Army fans in praying the rosary. During that time, the Black Knights scored to take the lead and held out for a 21 to 17 victory over the Midshipmen, giving Army its first win in the annual showdown since 2001.

SAN JOSE, CALIF. – Dr. Mark Moitoza, Vice-Chancellor for Evangelization of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), accepted a national award Thursday night for his outstanding contribution to youth ministry to families in the U.S. Military. The National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM) presented its National Youth Ministry Award to Dr. Moitoza at the National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry in San Jose, California.

Team AMS Surpasses Fundraising Goal in 41st Marine Corps Marathon

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A charity team of 25 runners representing the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), in the 41st Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) and 10K on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, surpassed its goal of raising $60,000 for the Archdiocese thanks in large part to an online matching gift challenge made possible by an anonymous donor.
