WASHINGTON, DC – Last week Father Daniel L. Mode, CHC, CAPT, USN, an accomplished and highly respected Catholic U.S. Navy chaplain, who remains in good standing with both the Navy and the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), received notice from the U.S. Coast Guard that he has been permanently removed from his duties as Chaplain of the Coast Guard. Some media outlets have reported that Father Mode failed to act on knowledge of another’s past sexual misconduct.

Church Joyfully Welcomes U.S. Navy Chaplain Candidate as Newly Ordained Transitional Deacon

BOCA RATON, FL – The Reverend Mr. Jacob Christian Gwynn, LTJG, USNR, a candidate for the Catholic priesthood and United States Military chaplaincy, was ordained a transitional deacon on Saturday, April 13, for the Diocese of Venice, FL. The new deacon is on track to be ordained a priest next year and hopes eventually to serve as a Catholic chaplain in the U.S. Navy, providing pastoral care to Catholics in the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, and their families with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS).

Two Prospective Catholic U.S. Military Chaplains Ordained Transitional Deacons in Arlington, VA

ASHBURN, VA – The Reverend Mr. Raymond E. Goins and the Rev. Mr. Michael C. Sampson were among 12 men ordained transitional deacons in the Diocese of Arlington on Saturday, April 6, before an overflow congregation at Saint Theresa Catholic Church in Ashburn, VA. Twenty-Seven Men Gather for Discernment Retreat on Possible Vocations as U.S. Military Chaplains

MENLO PARK, CA – A Catholic military chaplain serves God and Country, but how to know if you are called to wear both collar and colors? WASHINGTON, DC — Registration is now open for the 2024 Patrons Reception for the Saint John XXIII Foundation.  Proceeds will support the Foundation’s General Endowed Fund. Endowed gifts help underwrite the various ministries of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), including the education and formation of seminarians who will serve as Catholic military chaplains.

Rite of Election Celebrated for 13 Adults Affiliated with U.S. Military

WASHINGTON, DC — Thirteen aspiring Catholics affiliated with the United States Military celebrated the Rite of Election in the Nation’s Capital on Feb. 18, 2024, the first Sunday of Lent.  The 3:00 p.m. celebration, which took place in the main chapel of the Edwin Cardinal O’Brien Pastoral Center, global headquarters of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), is the penultimate milestone in a year-long process known as the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA). In the OCIA, candidates study the faith, prayerfully discern their calling to Catholicism, and upon completing the process, come into communion with the Church through the Easter sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and Holy Communion.
