Chancellor

Office of the Chancellor

As noted in canon law, the chancellor is responsible for archiving all of the important documents of the Archdiocese.  However, this office has many additional responsibilities.  The AMS chancery is responsible for processing all applications from priests who seek Catholic military chaplaincy in any of the branches of the United States military.  This includes candidates for active duty, the Reserves and National Guard. Priests’ wishing to serve the Civil Air Patrol and Veteran’s Administration Hospitals or as contractors at any military installation are subject to our review.  Applications from permanent deacons who wish to help those chaplains and seminarians who are considering Chaplain Candidacy are also reviewed by this office.

Additionally, the names of those lay people who have volunteered to minister as Lay Leaders or Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, and are deemed prepared by the local chaplain, are submitted to this office for approval.  Finally, we support the Catholic chaplains, Catholic coordinators and religious education staff at every U.S. military installation in the world in their efforts to provide a quality Catholic experience for the 1.8 million Catholics serving our country.
