WASHINGTON, DC–As a part of the #iGiveCatholic community, the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS) has joined the Archdiocese of New Orleans in their #iGiveCatholicTogether initiative.
This new initiative will help parishes and Catholic ministries that have been affected by the recent government regulations and are unable to receive offertory revenue. Benefactors can donate to the AMS or to other Catholic ministries currently being affected by the government closures.
Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio said, “#iGiveCatholicTogether is a timely initiative to help parishes and other catholic organizations who, despite this crisis, have not ceased to assist the needy. Scripture reminds us that through the water of Baptism, we are one body united in Christ, and when one part suffers, all the other parts suffer (1 Cor 12:12-26). We always remember to pray and help one another.”
In dealing with this pandemic, the AMS has increased its efforts to ensure that her ministry to service members and their families does not decrease despite the various governmental restrictions currently in place. Online resources have been added to continue the support of coordinators and catechists, daily Mass programming has been added to the AMS USA app, and one-on-one support to installations to register students on the AMS Family Assessment is being provided to the best of our abilities.
Where permitted, priests are also organizing Masses outdoors so the faithful can participate yet be socially distanced from other families. This past Sunday, Father Mark C. Bristol, CHC, LT, USN, who is currently deployed on the USS Theodore Roosevelt, was able to celebrate Sunday Mass in the open air on the flight deck of the ship to allow room for social distancing and unity in prayer.
