
BALTIMORE – The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), has been honored with 10 Catholic Press Awards for excellence in journalism, editing, publishing, and podcasting. The Catholic Media Association presented the awards Friday night, June 9, in its annual conference at the Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor Hotel at Camden Yards. Competing with Catholic publications throughout the United States and Canada, the AMS received awards in nine categories for its published writings, magazine editing, layout and typography, podcast interviews, and website.
SALUTE, the quarterly hard-copy news magazine of the AMS, garnered first-and-second-place honors in the magazine category of Best Ad Copywriting in advertisements promoting Catholic Distance University and the archdiocese’s commemorative brick fundraising campaign. Ms. Jo Ann Redmond was credited as editor.
The AMS Office of Public Affairs and Media Relations received a first-place award in the category of Best Press Release for a May 9, 2022 article on Chancellor Father Bob Cannon’s reflections on the need for gifts to the AMS’s triennial national collection. Director Taylor Henry was credited as writer.
SALUTE claimed a second-place award for Best Layout for an Article or Column (“Welcome to Lourdes”), a third-place award for Best Color Cover (Fall 2022 edition), and honorable mentions for Best Use of Typography (“Stretching the Agenda”) and Best Seasonal Issue (Easter 2022 edition). Ms. Redmond was credited as editor.
The AMS’s podcast, Catholic Military Life, received second-place honors for Best Podcast Series (2022 editions) and an honorable mention for Best Podcast Program (2022 editions). Mr. Henry was credited as producer. The AMS website, milarch.org, was honored with a third-place award for Best Diocesan Website. Associate Director for Evangelization and Digital Media Meg Betit was credited as webmaster.
His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, was cited as Publisher or Executive Producer of all AMS entries.
The Catholic Media Association represents 240 publications and 115 communications offices throughout the United States and Canada. This year’s contest winners were chosen among approximately 3,000 submissions in various categories.
