ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — On Dec. 3, 2025, His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, USA, published a written statement regarding U.S. Military attacks on suspected drug smugglers in the Caribbean and the Pacific. Archbishop Broglio called on the Nation’s leaders to respect the human dignity and due process rights of those targeted, and conscience protections for the men and women who serve and take orders down the chain of command in the U.S. Military.
On Friday night in Atlantic City, NJ, the Catholic Media Association (CMA) recognized Archbishop Broglio’s timely statement with a First Place Award in the category of Best Diocesan Pastoral Message. The jury noted, “This piece is pastorally bold, concise, blunt, and to the point. It succinctly and clearly explains the matter at hand and its implications and presents the Church’s perspective faithfully and intelligently. It stays on topic and demands a faithful response. Excellent pastoral statement!”
The CMA also presented Archbishop Broglio with an Honorable Mention for his Oct. 17, 2025 letter to the faithful regarding contract cancellations in the U.S. Army, in which he implored the faithful to continue worshiping at Army chapels in spite of the Army’s (temporary) termination of all chapel contracts for Coordinators of Religious Education (CREs), Catholic Pastoral Life Coordinators (CPLCs), and liturgical musicians.
The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), received two other awards at the June 16-19 Catholic Media Conference.
SALUTE Magazine, edited by Elizabeth Tomlin and Jo Ann Redmond, won a Second Place Award for Best Cover for the Summer 2025 edition, celebrating the Archdiocese’s 40th Anniversary. The jury observed, “This is an excellent cover, seamlessly blending history and present. By showing the famous ‘Jeep Mass’ for which Father Kapaun is known, the artists capture attention right away, connecting it with a modern-day military Mass in the photo beneath. The central title panel is elegant, honoring the 40 years of the past while pulling readers in.”
The AMS podcast, Catholic Military Life, produced by Taylor Henry, took home a Third Place Award for Best Audio Interview for his December 2025 conversation with the Rev. Msgr. Stephen J. Rossetti on exorcism. According to the jury, “This interview can serve as a roadmap to the Catholic theology behind exorcisms. The interviewer elicited answers to essential questions such as: What’s the difference between mental illness and possession? He was also able to get this subject to talk about what performing exorcisms is actually like.”
