Archbishop Broglio Issues Statement on Passing of President George H.W. Bush

His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, USA, has issued the following statement on the passing of President George H.W. Bush:

“As the Nation mourns the passing of a great statesman, I give thanks for his example, which typifies what is the best about the U.S. tradition of service before self.  From the young man who enlisted to serve in World War II to his service in the US House of Representatives, as a Director of the CIA, a fellow Ambassador, Vice President, President, and finally senior statesmen, George H. W. Bush never shied away from duty.  He has taught all of us how to serve.

“As a diplomat in service at the Holy See Secretariat of State, I remember meeting him in 1991.  He was cordial and seemed pleased to meet a fellow countryman in the solemn, splendid halls of the Apostolic Palace.

“We pray for the repose of his soul and hope that his example of selfless devotion to this Country will inspire the service of us all.”
