Archdiocese and Catholic Military Chaplains Receive Abundant Recognition in 2017 Awards from the Catholic Press Association

Quarterly news magazine SALUTE receives two awards; Catholic News Service (CNS) takes top honor for chaplain profile

QUEBEC, CANADA – The Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada (CPA) honored SALUTE Magazine with two awards Friday night, June 23, 2017, at the organization’s annual awards banquet in Quebec City. SALUTE is the quarterly news magazine of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). Edited by Ms. Jo Ann RedmondSALUTE has a circulation of approximately 50,000 worldwide.

The Christmas 2016 edition received a Third Place award for Best Seasonal Issue. An advertisement appearing in the same edition received a Third Place award for Best Ad Copywriting. The ad, entitled “A Call to the Faithful,” invited donations to support the free exercise of Catholic Faith in the U.S. Military.

Meanwhile, Catholic News Service (CNS) multimedia journalist Chaz Muth received a First Place award for his video on Father Luke Willenberg, CH (CPT), USA, breaking the record for fastest 12-mile foot march at the U.S. Army’s elite DeGlopper Air Assault School. Father Willenberg serves with AMS faculties and endorsement. Mr. Muth won the award in the category of Best Freestanding Presentation of Online Video – Depiction of Religious Life.

Additionally, Mr. Muth received a Third Place Award in the category of Best Multimedia Package – Series for his eight-part series on Catholic priests who serve as chaplains in the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The CPA represents 240 newspapers, magazines, newsletters, freelance journalists, and other member publishers throughout the United States and Canada. This year’s contest winners were chosen among 2,688 press submissions in 338 categories.
