WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS) is looking for volunteers to join Team AMS in the 34th annual Army Ten-Miler (ATM) on Oct. 7. Registration is now open on a first-come, first-served basis.
Team AMS will run the ten-mile course not only for fun and exercise, but also to raise awareness and financial support for the Archdiocese. Each Team AMS runner will be provided with a unique fundraising web page. Anyone who raises at least $1,000 will receive a refund for the $100 ATM registration fee.
Proceeds will support pastoral care for Catholics in the U.S. Military as well as those receiving treatment in the nation’s Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Centers or working as civilians for the federal government beyond U.S. borders and the families of these populations.
Last year, 50 runners from across the country represented Team AMS and raised nearly $60,000. The AMS hopes to surpass that achievement this October. Mr. Salvador Perez, AMS Associate Director of Annual Giving, said the Army Ten-Miler is a “fun and unique opportunity to get involved, meet AMS military chaplains, Co-Sponsored Seminarians, staff and clergy, and to help raise critical funds for the AMS.”
Team slots are limited, and registration closes Aug. 1, so Mr. Perez advises anyone interested in joining Team AMS to avoid delay in registering. “If you or someone you know is 15 years or older and would like to be part of Team AMS,” he urged, “please ask them to register.”
