Two Prospective Catholic U.S. Navy Chaplains Ordained Transitional Deacons in Arlington, VA

ARLINGTON, VA — The Reverend Mr. Michael T. Nugent and the Rev. Mr. Charles C. Wilton were ordained transitional deacons on Saturday, April 23, in a solemn Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Thomas More in Arlington, VA. CINCINNATI, OH – The Reverend Mr. Stephen J. MENLO PARK, CA – Nineteen men are gathered here this weekend for a March 31-April 3 discernment retreat aimed at helping them discern if they are called by the Holy Spirit to be Catholic priests and U.S. Military chaplains. The Vocations Office of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), is holding the retreat at St. Patrick’s Seminary in hopes of relieving a chronic shortage of Catholic priests on active duty.

STOCKBRIDGE, MA – Father Matthew Tomeny, MIC, LTJG, USNR, a candidate for active-duty U.S. Military chaplaincy, was ordained a Catholic priest on Monday, Dec. 27, 2021—the Feast of St. John the Evangelist—in Stockbridge, MA. He hopes eventually to serve as a Catholic Navy chaplain with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The new priest plans to go on active duty following a three-year period of pastoral service in his religious community, the Congregation of Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception (the Marians), under a co-sponsorship agreement between the Marians and the AMS.

Twelve Men Gather for Discernment Retreat on Possible Vocations as U.S. Military Chaplains

CINCINNATI, OH — Twelve men will gather here this weekend for an October 21-24 discernment retreat aimed at helping them decide if they are called by the Holy Spirit to be Catholic priests and U.S. Military chaplains. The Vocations Office of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), is holding the retreat at Mount St. Mary’s of the West Seminary. The prospective chaplain candidates include seven civilians along with two men now serving in the Air Force, one in the Army, one in the Navy, and one enrolled in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC).

WASHINGTON, DC — Thirteen men from many service branches of the United States Armed Forces will gather here this weekend for a June 24-27 discernment retreat aimed at helping them determine if they are called by the Holy Spirit to be Catholic priests and military chaplains. The Vocations Office of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), is holding the semi-annual retreat at Theological College, the national seminary of the Catholic University of America. The prospective chaplain candidates include three now serving in the Army, two in the Marine Corps, one in the Navy, two in the Air Force, and five civilians.
