Catholic Catechists in U.S. Military to Gather in Baltimore This Weekend for Mid-Atlantic Congress

BALTIMORE—More than two dozen Catholic catechetical leaders based on United States Military installations throughout the eastern U.S. will gather in Baltimore, Md., this  weekend for three days of training, fellowship, discussion, and prayer at the ninth annual Mid-Atlantic Congress (MAC). The Congress is co-sponsored by 20 Catholic organizations and publishers, including the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). It provides diocesan and parish staffs and volunteers a forum in which to explore current challenges in the common areas of faith formation, management, finances, human resources, and planning. MAC 2020 will take place at the Hilton Baltimore, 401 West Pratt Street. More than 1,000 are expected to participate in this year’s Congress.

Although early registration deadlines have passed, you can still register at the onsite rate of $215 per person for all three days of the Jan. 30-Feb. 1 Congress. Military catechists may still register at the discount rate of $135 by using the promo code, “MAC2020.” Single-day registrations are available at $80 per person on Thursday or Friday or $30 for Saturday. Two-day registrations are available at $135 for Thursday and Friday or $115 for Friday and Saturday. Registrations will be taken at the door beginning on the first day of the Congress.

The military group will focus on ways to develop catechetical leadership in faith formation activities for families in the armed forces. On Friday, Jan. 31, His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, USA, will host an appreciation dinner (RSVP required). The dinner will take place in the Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor Hotel beginning at 6:45 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). Archbishop Broglio will speak on the theme of this year’s Congress, “One. Holy. Catholic. Apostolic.”

Additionally, the Father Vincent Capodanno Guild will stage an exhibit on the Vietnam War hero and Servant of God at Booth 315 throughout the weekend of activities.

The AMS group comprises representatives of the Archdiocese, including Msgr. John J.M. Foster, J.C.D., Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia; Dr. Mark Moitoza, Th.D., D. Min., Vice-Chancellor for Evangelization; Ms. Elizabeth Tomlin, General Counsel; and lay leaders from the following military installations: Aberdeen Proving GroundMarine Corps Base (MCB) QuanticoFort MeadeJoint Base Andrews-Naval Air Facility (NAF), Joint Base Myer-Henderson HallLangley Air Force Base (AFB), and Carlisle Barracks. Foster, Dr. Moitoza, and Ms. Tomlin will participate in a Bishops’ Leadership Round Table meeting during the Congress.
