NORTHBROOK, ILLINOIS—The original deadline of May 12 has been extended to May 26 to register for Serving as a Missionary Disciple, the first-ever international conference held specifically for Catholic young adults in the U.S. Military. The conference will be held June 16-18, 2017, at the Techny Towers Conference and Retreat Center in Northbrook, Ill., near Chicago’s O’Hare and Midway airports.
According to Dr. Mark Moitoza, Vice Chancellor of Evangelization of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, the vision for the conference is to enhance the lifelong faith journey of 18-29 year old military Catholics, married and single, active duty members and spouses. Learn more here.
Ms. Casey Bustamante, Associate Director for Young Adult Ministry, said “the author of the Spiritual Exercises and former soldier, St. Ignatius, challenges us to remember that each person is called to put on Christ. Man and woman can embody Christ by first looking at themselves and how they can seek holiness in the ordinary. The upcoming conference will challenge young adults to embody Christ as service members and in the faith community.”
Ms. Bustamante pointed out that “so often the Catholic faith seems to conflict with military culture; many traditions remain the same while others constantly change.” She said the June 16-18 weekend will be an opportunity for Catholics who serve to consider how God is calling each person to be an authentic witness to the Gospel.
