Franciscans Return to Walter Reed

The Franciscan priests and friars of Holy Name College Friary are back ministering to patients at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center after a two-month interruption in pastoral service due to a now-resolved contract issue.

Archbishop Broglio announced that a new five-year contract renewable annually has been awarded to the Franciscans. Previously they had served the medical center as chaplains for nearly 20 years before their contract expired and was awarded to a secular defense contractor without the means to provide Catholic clergy in April, just days before Holy Week.
