WASHINGTON, DC — Supporters of the Cause for Father Vincent R. Capodanno, Servant of God, are invited to take part in a Novena for the advancement of the Cause. Father Daniel L. Mode, author of The Grunt Padre, a biography of Father Capodanno, MM, CHC, LT, USN (1929-1967), leads the Novena on the website of the Father Capodanno Guild. To access the prayer, visit www.capodannoguild.org/prayers/.
His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, USA, has approved the Novena and asks believers to pray. The planned Novena will begin the Monday of Holy Week, March 30, and continue through April 7, but the prayer video will remain posted until the Holy See’s Dicastery for the Causes of Saints announces its decision, so please join in this Novena as you can.
The timing of the Novena coincides with Father Capodanno’s arrival in Vietnam during Holy Week of 1966, only to be killed in combat on Sept. 4, 1967, while rushing to the aid of embattled U.S. Marines, earning him the Nation’s highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor.
The Father Capodanno Guild is the one and only official organization established to promote the Cause for Canonization of Father Capodanno. For more information, visit www.CapodannoGuild.org.
