WASHINGTON, D.C. — His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., will virtually join his brother Catholic bishops throughout the United States and Canada on May 1, 2020, in renewing the consecration of the two nations to the care of the Blessed Mother in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 3:00 p.m. (EDT) re-consecration will be led in Los Angeles by Archbishop José H. Gomez, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, with U.S. and Canadian bishops joining in their respective dioceses. Archbishop Broglio will take part in the prayer of consecration from the main chapel of the Edwin Cardinal O’Brien Pastoral Center in Washington, D.C., home base for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The Pastoral Center on Michigan Avenue in northeast Washington is headquarters for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). It is normally open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio ordered the temporary shutdown in response to Mayor Muriel Bowser’s May 24 order temporarily ceasing onsite non-essential business activities in the District of Columbia and prohibiting gatherings of ten or more people. Mayor Bowser’s order is effective from last night at 10:00 p.m. through April 24, 2020, unless extended, rescinded, superseded, or amended. AMS staffers who are able will telework from home and be accessible by email or telephone. Any updates on the status of the Edwin Cardinal O’Brien Pastoral Center will be posted on the AMS website, www.milarch.org.
FORTH WORTH, TX — The Rev. Mr. Jason Allan was among a half-dozen candidates for the Catholic priesthood ordained transitional deacons on Thursday, March 19, in a solemn Mass at St. Patrick Cathedral in Fort Worth. A seminarian at the Theological College, the national seminary of the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, Deacon Allan is on track to become a U.S. Navy chaplain with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The new deacon, 26, hopes to be ordained a priest on May 15, 2021, and go on active duty after three years of pastoral service in his home Diocese of Fort Worth.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Pope Francis is calling on Christians everywhere to respond to the novel coronavirus pandemic by joining him in praying the Lord’s Prayer at 7:00 a.m. ET (noon in Rome) on Wednesday, March 25. That day marks the Feast of the Annunciation, when the faithful celebrate the angel Gabriel’s visitation to the Virgin Mary, announcing the Incarnation of the Word.
