Pope Benedict XVI Honors Four AMS Priests

Two named Prelates of Honor, Two named Chaplains of His Holiness

WASHINGTON, D.C.— His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI has honored four outstanding priests who have served or currently serve the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS).

Msgr. Frank Pugliese of the Archdiocese of New York, Vicar General, and Msgr. James Burnett of the diocese of Davenport, Chief Chaplain of the Edward Hines VA Medical Center in Chicago and President of the NCVACC, have been named Prelates of Honor.

Msgr. John McLaughlin of the Archdiocese of Boston, former Director of Vocations and currently Newman Chaplain at Boston University, and Msgr. Matthew D’Souza of the diocese of Lucknow (India), a retired Navy Chaplain, have been named Chaplains of His Holiness.

Archbishop Broglio is deeply grateful to the Holy See for having responded affirmatively to his petition and congratulates these fine priests for their selfless service to the Archdiocese and to ministry among those entrusted to her pastoral care.

This is the first time that the Archdiocese has requested Papal Honors for a VA Chaplain.
