WASHINGTON, DC — As the Nation prepares to celebrate its 250th Anniversary, a U.S. Armed Forces Color Guard from the Military District of Washington will herald the opening of the 32nd Annual Memorial Mass at 4:30 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, May 17, 2026. The Mass will take place in the Great Upper Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Michigan Avenue, Northeast, in Washington, DC.

Archbishop Broglio said, “The news of Bishop-elect Studniewski fills me with joy. He was a fine military chaplain and has been an excellent pastor. I look forward to working with him in Region IV and promise him my prayerful support as he and Bishop-elect Robert Boxie prepare for episcopal ordination.”

Archbishop Broglio celebrated Ash Wednesday Mass at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, in keeping with his annual custom on the first day of Lent. Prior to Mass, Archbishop Broglio brought ashes to bedridden patients in their rooms.
