WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), will soon have a new Director of Vocations. He is Father S. Matthew Gray, Ch, Capt, USAF, a priest of the Diocese of Charleston, SC. Father Gray replaces Father Aidan (Arthur H.) Logan, O.C.S.O., who recently began to offer pastoral assistance at Assumption Grotto Church in Detroit, MI, after serving as AMS Vocations Director for seven years.

Archbishop Timothy Broglio Celebrates Combined Memorial/Father Capodanno Mass

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Sunday, Sept. 6, 2020, His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, USA, celebrated the combined annual Memorial Mass for all who serve or have served in the U.S. Military, and the Memorial Mass for Vietnam War hero Father Vincent R. Capodanno, M.M., Servant of God. The two Masses, normally celebrated separately at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, were combined and moved to the main chapel of the Edwin Cardinal O’Brien Pastoral Centerdue to social distancing guidelines imposed by the City of Washington, D.C., over the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eagle Scout Benjamin Rawald of Laughlin Air Force Base Catholic Community Earns $5,000 College Scholarship

WASHINGTON, DC – The National Catholic Committee on Scouting® (NCCS) has awarded Eagle Scout Benjamin Rawald of Del Rio, TX, a first-place $5,000 college scholarship through the Emmett J. Doerr Memorial Scout Scholarship Fund. Mr. Rawald, 18, is a member of the Catholic Community at Laughlin Air Force Base (AFB), which lies within the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). He is a member of Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Troop 280 and Crew 280 sponsored by Elks Lodge #837.

Archdiocese Celebrates Priestly Ordination of Prospective New Catholic U.S. Army Chaplain in Florida

ORLANDO, FL – Father Adam D. Marchese, (2LT) USAR, a candidate for United States Military chaplaincy, was ordained a Catholic priest on Saturday, July 25, in his home Diocese of Orlando, FL. SALUTE Magazine Takes Top Honor in 2020 International Catholic Press Awards

WASHINGTON, DC – SALUTE, the hard-copy news magazine published quarterly by the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA(AMS), has been honored with a first-place certificate in the 2020 Catholic Press Awards, sponsored by the Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada. The judge’s panel, which consists of media and academic professionals, deemed the Summer 2019 edition’s color cover (pictured) the year’s best for a small-size magazine, earning SALUTEthe top honor in the “Best Cover for Color” category. The award citation recognizes SALUTE Editor Jo Ann Redmond for her outstanding work.
