WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today marks the tenth anniversary of His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio’s installation as Archbishop of the Military Services, USA. Archbishop Broglio was installed on Jan. 25, 2008, by the late Most Rev. Pietro Sambi, then Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

Time Running Out to Apply for 2018 “Warriors to Lourdes” Spiritual Journey

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Time is running out for U.S. Military personnel, including the wounded, ill, and injured, to apply for an all-expenses-paid, round-trip journey to the Marian grotto and spring baths at Lourdes, France, during the 60th annual Pèlerinage Militaire International (PMI)—or “International Military Pilgrimage”—May 15 to 22, 2018.  All applications must be received no later than Monday, Jan. 15, 2018.

Team AMS Crosses Finish Line in 33rd Annual Army Ten Miler with only $7,000 Left to Raise

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A charity team of 50 runners representing the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS) crossed the finish line in the 33rd annual Army Ten-Miler on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, just $7,208 short of its $60,000 fundraising goal. Consequently, the AMS has decided to extend the donation period for one more week in hopes reaching the target. Donors now have through Friday, Oct. 13, to make a gift. Co-Sponsored Seminarian Enrollment Rises to 43 as Back-to-School Season Attracts Prospective New Catholic Military Chaplains

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Back-to-school season brings promise of relief for a severe Catholic chaplain shortage in the U.S. Military. Among the several hundred prospective priests entering American seminaries for the first time this fall, no fewer than seven plan, after ordination, to go on active duty as chaplains. Additionally, at least another four U.S. Catholic seminarians in various advanced stages of formation have decided this year to pursue military chaplaincy, and have made a commitment to “serve those who serve” as priests in the armed forces.

Auxiliary Bishop Spencer Joins Soldiers from Six Nations on Walk for Peace in Poland

CZĘSTOCHOWA, POLAND – Auxiliary Bishop F. Richard Spencer joined soldiers and military officers from the United States and five other nations in a “Walk for Peace” across parts of Poland. They walked as participants in Poland’s traditional August pilgrimage to the revered Black Madonna, a sacred icon preserved at the historic shrine to Our Lady of Częstochowa, the Queen of Peace. Bishop Spencer serves His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, USA, as his Episcopal Vicar for military installations in Europe and Asia.

Deadline Looms for Corporate Sponsors to Pledge Support for Team AMS in Army Ten-Miler

WASHINGTON, D.C. – At 72, retired U.S. Navy Lieutenant John Odell runs three days a week, five to six miles at a stretch. “My doctor told me that running was better than any pill he could prescribe, so I figured running’s doing good for me,” the veteran naval cryptologic maintenance officer quipped. On Oct. 8, Mr. Odell, of Penrose, N.C., will run through the streets of the nation’s capital in the U.S. Army’s 33rd annual Army Ten-Miler. He will be on a charity team running to raise money for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS).

Prospective New Navy Chaplain Ordained a Priest

LAFAYETTE, LA. – The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), is celebrating the priestly ordination of a prospective U.S. Navy chaplain this past weekend.  Father Rene Pellessier, 27, was ordained a priest on Saturday, June 10, in Lafayette, La. Father Pellessier hopes eventually to serve on active duty in the U.S. Navy with endorsement and faculties from the AMS.
