Future Catholic U.S. Air Force Chaplain Ordained Priest for Eparchy of Phoenix

PHOENIX, AZ – Father Joshua A. Johnson, 2d Lt, USAFR, a prospective U.S. Air Force chaplain, was ordained a Catholic priest on Thursday, June 12, at Saint Stephen’s Cathedral of the Byzantine Eparchy of Phoenix, AZ. The new priest plans to go on active duty three years from now, providing pastoral care to Catholic airmen, space guardians, and their families, with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). In preparation for military chaplaincy he will spend the next three years honing his ministerial skills in the Eparchy of Phoenix as provided under the terms of his co-sponsored seminarian agreement with the AMS and the Eparchy.

Future U.S. Air Force Catholic Chaplain Ordained a Priest in Kentucky

OWENSBORO, KY – Father Conrad T. Jaconette, 2d Lt USAF, a prospective U.S. Air Force chaplain, was ordained a priest on Saturday, May 31, in his home Diocese of Owensboro, KY. Father Jaconette plans to go on active duty in three years following a period of civilian ministry in local parishes under his co-sponsored seminarian agreement with the Owensboro Diocese and the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). His first assignment will be at Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Hopkinsville, where he will serve as parochial vicar.

Former Chancellor Father Robert R. Cannon, Ch Col USAF (Ret.), Receives Papal Honors

WASHINGTON, DC — Father Robert R. Cannon is now “the Reverend Monsignor” Robert R. Cannon. The Holy See recently bestowed the honorary ecclesiastical title on the retired U.S. Air Force chaplain and former chancellor of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), for exceptional service to the Catholic Church. Msgr. Cannon stepped down as AMS chancellor last month after eight years of service to pursue a doctorate in canon law. He has been succeeded as chancellor by retired U.S. Army Colonel Anita Raines.

Prospective Catholic Priests and Military Chaplains Gather for “Welcome Aboard” Event in Nation’s Capital

WASHINGTON, DC — This past weekend the Vocations Office of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), hosted a “Welcome Aboard” gathering for incoming co-sponsored seminarians planning to serve as active-duty U.S. Military chaplains after ordination. The chaplain candidates’ seminary tuition and related expenses will be funded jointly by the AMS and their home dioceses, hence their designation as “co-sponsored.” Four men took part in the June 22-25 retreat, sharing time in fellowship, Morning and Evening Prayer, the celebration of Mass, conversation with Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio, and briefings from AMS staff.

ANCHORAGE, AK – Father Madison Hayes, 2d Lt, USAFR, a candidate for United States Military chaplaincy, was ordained a Catholic priest on Friday, Aug. 6, 2021, in Anchorage, AK.
