Team AMS to Run in 2016 Marine Corps Marathon

Team registration opens Tuesday, April 7, at www.milarch.org/marathon

Father Arnel Ranada (Right), CH (CPT), USA, leaves the starting line on the 40th Annual Marine Corps Marathon in Arlington, Va., on Oct. 25, 2015.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), will field a team in the 41st Annual Marine Corps Marathon (MCM). The MCM is the third largest marathon in the United States and the eighth largest in the world. Last year, nearly 30,000 runners took part, and the 2016 marathon is limited to 30,000 participants.
For the fourth year in a row, Team AMS will run as a “charity partner” in the Oct. 30, 2016 race to raise money for the archdiocese. In 2015, members of Team AMS raised $67,240.96, a record for the last 3 years the AMS has participated in the Marine Corps Marathon. Thanks to a one-day matching gift challenge made possible by The Charitable Exchange (TCE), an additional $37,836.67 was raised to support all AMS programs.

In 2015, 47 runners from 18 different states and the District of Columbia completed the 40th Annual Marine Corps Marathon and 10K as members of Team AMS. This year, the team hopes to field at least 50 runners and has a fundraising goal of least $55,000.

For those not up to the challenge of the full 26.2 mile marathon, the MCM will again host a 10 kilometer (6.2 mile) race the same day on a parallel route along the Potomac River, through the scenic neighborhoods and stately monument grounds of the nation’s capital.

Beginning on Tuesday, April 7, anyone interested in joining Team AMS for the marathon may register at www.milarch.org/marathon. Registration will remain open until all 50 slots are filled. 10K runners may register individually on the same site beginning April 27.
