U.S. Military Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio to Greet Pope Francis upon September 22 Arrival at Joint Base Andrews

Pope to land on U.S. soil within the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, for week-long apostolic visit to three cities

WASHINGTON, D.C. – His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the United States Military Services, will be on hand to greet Pope Francis when the Holy Father lands at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, for a six-day apostolic visit to the U.S. Archbishop Broglio will be joined in the welcoming party by His Excellency, the Most Reverend Carlo Maria Viganò, Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See to the United States; and His Eminence, Donald Cardinal Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington, D.C.

The pope’s Sept. 22-27 U.S. visit will include stops in Washington, New York, N.Y., and Philadelphia, Pa. The Washington leg of his trip will take place Sept. 22-24, during which time the pope will visit President Barack Obama at the White House, make the first-ever papal address to the U.S. Congress, and celebrate a Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception to canonize Blessed Junipero Serra in what will be the firstcanonization ever to take place on American soil.

On Thursday, Sept. 24, Archbishop Broglio will return with Pope Francis to Joint Base Andrews to see off the pontiff on the New York leg of his trip.
