Saint Patrick’s Day

This year Saint Patrick’s Day falls on a Friday in Lent. The obligation to abstain from meat and meat products is grave indeed. It reminds us of the unique sacrifice which gives us hope for salvation. At any earlier time every Friday was a day of abstinence and it remains a day when all of us are called to do some penance.

For those who would like to honor St. Patrick with either traditional Irish dishes or some other festive meal on 17 March, Archbishop Broglio has granted permission to choose another day of that week when you will abstain from meat and meat products.
