In World Youth Day Homily Archbishop Broglio Implores Pilgrims to Gain Experience of God’s Love

LISBON — At World Youth Day in Lisbon, Portugal, on Friday, August 4, 2023, His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, USA (AMS), and President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), implored the faithful to “delve more deeply into the mystery of divine love” to animate that same love in their daily lives. His Excellency preached the homily in a Mass for some 500 English-speaking pilgrims at the Church of Our Lady of the Incarnation (Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Encarnação).

Record Number of Supporters Makes Gifts to Archdiocese in Annual Day of Giving

WASHINGTON, D.C.— A record number of supporters have contributed money in this year’s Day of Giving for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The AMS Day of Giving is held annually on July 21 to commemorate the 1986 establishment of the Archdiocese. Since Friday, July 21, 462 generous donors have contributed to the 2023 campaign, breaking the previous record of 326 donors set in 2021, giving the Archdiocese this year more than $85,000.

Prospective Catholic Priests and Military Chaplains Gather for “Welcome Aboard” Event in Nation’s Capital

WASHINGTON, DC — This past weekend the Vocations Office of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), hosted a “Welcome Aboard” gathering for incoming co-sponsored seminarians planning to serve as active-duty U.S. Military chaplains after ordination. The chaplain candidates’ seminary tuition and related expenses will be funded jointly by the AMS and their home dioceses, hence their designation as “co-sponsored.” Four men took part in the June 22-25 retreat, sharing time in fellowship, Morning and Evening Prayer, the celebration of Mass, conversation with Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio, and briefings from AMS staff.

Two Prospective Catholic U.S. Military Chaplains Ordained Transitional Deacons in Washington, DC

WASHINGTON, DC — The Reverend Mr. Joseph Heisey and the Rev. Mr. Christopher Feist were ordained transitional deacons on Saturday, June 10, in a solemn Mass at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in the nation’s capital. Both are on track to become Catholic priests next year and eventually serve as U.S. Military chaplains with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The Rev. Mr. Heisey plans to serve on active duty in the Army, the Rev. Mr. Feist in the Navy.

AMS Publications Honored with 10 Catholic Press Awards for Excellence

BALTIMORE – The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), has been honored with 10 Catholic Press Awards for excellence in journalism, editing, publishing, and podcasting. The Catholic Media Association presented the awards Friday night, June 9, in its annual conference at the Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor Hotel at Camden Yards. Competing with Catholic publications throughout the United States and Canada, the AMS received awards in nine categories for its published writings, magazine editing, layout and typography, podcast interviews, and website.

Catholic U.S. Air Force Chaplain Candidate Ordained a Transitional Deacon in Indiana

GARY, IN – The Reverend Mr. Zachary Glick, 2d Lt, USAFR, a candidate for the Catholic priesthood and United States Military chaplaincy, was ordained a transitional deacon on Saturday, June 3, 2023, in his home Diocese of Gary, IN. The new deacon is on track to be ordained a priest next year and hopes eventually to serve as a Catholic chaplain in the U.S. Air Force providing pastoral care to Catholic airmen and their families with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS).
