Catholic U.S. Navy Chaplain Candidate Ordained a Priest in Denver

DENVER – Father Anthony Davis, ENS, USN, a candidate for service as a Catholic chaplain in the United States Military, was ordained a priest on Saturday, May 15, in Denver, CO. He hopes eventually to serve as a Catholic chaplain in the United States Navy with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The new priest hopes to go on active duty following a three-year period of pastoral service in his home Archdiocese of Denver under a co-sponsorship agreement between the Archdiocese of Denver and the AMS.

Annual Memorial Mass Returns to Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Sunday for the first time in two years, in a sign of progress against COVID, Archbishop Timothy Broglio celebrated the annual Memorial Mass at its usual location: in the Great Upper Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Preaching from the ambo, Archbishop Broglio reflected on the Solemnity of the Ascension, urging believers to accept Christ’s call “to go forth, be and experience the signs of the power of God, and offer hope.”

Father Jeffrey G. Laible Named Vicar General

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), will soon have a new Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia. Father Jeffrey G. Laible, Ch, Col, USAF, a chaplain in the Illinois Air National Guard, will assume the new position in July. He succeeds Monsignor John J.M. Foster, J.C.D., who is returning to his home Diocese of Stockton, CA, following eight years of fruitful service to the AMS.

Lane, ENS, USNR, a candidate for the Catholic priesthood and United States Military chaplaincy, was ordained a transitional deacon on Saturday, May 8, 2021, in Philadelphia, PA. He hopes eventually to serve as a U.S. Navy chaplain with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). Children and Teenagers in Active-Duty Catholic Families Invited to Take the AMS Disciple Challenge

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Time to take the Challenge! The AMS “Disciple Challenge,” that is. The Office of Faith Formation of the AMS (Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA) has opened a two-month window from April 1 through May 31 for students in families on active duty to test and develop their knowledge of the Catholic Faith, free of charge, by answering Challenge questions ranging in complexity by grade level.

Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio Consecrates and Blesses Sacramental Oils at Socially-Distanced Chrism Mass

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Sacred oils for sacramental and ecclesiastical use over the coming year on U.S. military sites worldwide and in the nation’s VA Medical Centers were blessed and consecrated Tuesday evening during a socially-distanced gathering at the annual Chrism Mass of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). Attendance was limited to no more than 60 members of the public due to crowd size restrictions imposed by the District of Columbia during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. During the Mass, Catholic U.S. Military chaplains, priests in service to, and friends of the Archdiocese also renewed their ministerial commitment.
