WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS) is now taking registrations for its first-ever Catholic Marriage Enrichment Retreat. The retreat, for active duty couples who have been married at least two years, will be held Feb. 16-18, 2018, at the Bon Secours Retreat House in Marriottsville, Md., a 300-acre pastoral setting with abundant spaces for reflection, both indoors and outdoors.
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Time is running out for U.S. Military personnel, including the wounded, ill, and injured, to apply for an all-expenses-paid, round-trip journey to the Marian grotto and spring baths at Lourdes, France, during the 60th annual Pèlerinage Militaire International (PMI)—or “International Military Pilgrimage”—May 15 to 22, 2018. All applications must be received no later than Monday, Jan. 15, 2018.

The Opportunity ends on Dec. 31. Generous benefactors will match any contribution received before the end of the year, dollar for dollar.
RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, GERMANY—Fourteen Catholic priests attached to U.S. Military installations throughout Europe gathered at Ramstein Air Base over the weekend for two days of prayer and fraternity as the Church embarks on a new liturgical year with the celebration of Advent.
WASHINGTON, DC—Supporters of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS) set record levels of attendance and giving at the Archdiocese’s Annual Benefit Saturday evening in Washington, DC. According to the AMS Office of Advancement, a record 286 registered for—and 269 attended—the Ninth Annual Benefit at the St. John Paul II Shrine, donating more than $375,000 to the Archdiocese, the largest amount ever raised in the nine-year history of the Annual Benefit. The event opened with an anticipated Sunday Mass and included a sit-down dinner highlighted by presentation of the Medal of the Archdiocese to Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson of the Knights of Columbus (K of C).

YONKERS, NEW YORK—As the Catholic Church celebrates National Vocation Awareness Week Nov. 5-11 in the United States, fourteen men from many service branches of the U.S. Armed Forces will gather here this weekend for a discernment retreat aimed at helping them determine if they are called by the Holy Spirit to be Catholic priests and military chaplains. The Vocations Office of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), is conducting the retreat Nov. 9-12 at St. Joseph’s Seminary. Among the prospective chaplain candidates are more than a half-dozen men already serving in the Military, including three from the Army; five from the Navy; and one from the Air Force. Five of the prospective chaplains are currently civilians.
On Nov 2, the day of the Commemoration of the Dead, Pope Francis celebrated Holy Mass for all the victims of war at an Italian cemetery for American personnel killed in World War II.

Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus (K of C), will receive the Medal of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS) in recognition of the outstanding contributions by the K of C to the Archdiocese. His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, will present the Medal to Mr. and Mrs. Anderson at the 9th Annual Benefit for the AMS on November 18, 2017 at the Saint John Paul II National Shrine, 3900 Harewood Road NE, Washington, DC
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Father Joseph Verbis Lafleur, a Catholic U.S. Army Air Corps Chaplain in World War II, posthumously received the Distinguished Service Cross and the Purple Heart in a ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 17, in Opelousas, LA. Congressman Ralph Abraham, M.D., (R-LA), presented the two military medals to Father Lefleur’s nephew and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lefleur, at Saint Landry Catholic Church, where the priest celebrated his first Mass following ordination in 1938. The Most Reverend J. Douglas Deshotel, Bishop of Lafayette, LA, and Father James Brady, pastor of Saint Landry Parish, participated in the ceremony along with other dignitaries, devout Catholics, and students from Opelousas Catholic Junior High and High Schools.
