Prospective Catholic Priests and Military Chaplains Gather for “Welcome Aboard” Event in Nation’s Capital

WASHINGTON, DC — This past weekend the Vocations Office of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), hosted a “Welcome Aboard” gathering for incoming co-sponsored seminarians planning to serve as active-duty U.S. Military chaplains after ordination. The chaplain candidates’ seminary tuition and related expenses will be funded jointly by the AMS and their home dioceses, hence their designation as “co-sponsored.” Four men took part in the June 22-25 retreat, sharing time in fellowship, Morning and Evening Prayer, the celebration of Mass, conversation with Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio, and briefings from AMS staff.

AMS Publications Honored with 10 Catholic Press Awards for Excellence

BALTIMORE – The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), has been honored with 10 Catholic Press Awards for excellence in journalism, editing, publishing, and podcasting. The Catholic Media Association presented the awards Friday night, June 9, in its annual conference at the Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor Hotel at Camden Yards. Competing with Catholic publications throughout the United States and Canada, the AMS received awards in nine categories for its published writings, magazine editing, layout and typography, podcast interviews, and website.

Two Prospective Catholic U.S. Navy Chaplains Ordained Priests in Virginia

GAINESVILLE, VA — Fathers Michael T. Nugent and Charles C. Wilton were ordained Catholic priests on Saturday, June 3, in a solemn Mass and an overflowing congregation at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Gainesville, VA. Warriors to Lourdes Complete Spiritual Journey in Search of Healing, Divine Mercy, and Peace on Earth

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A group of more than 250 pilgrims composed largely of U.S. Military personnel—including the ill, wounded, and injured, along with their companions and caretakers—headed home from France this week after a week-long journey of healing to the Marian grotto and bath springs in Lourdes. The Warriors to Lourdes went to the Pyrenees Mountain village last week to take part in the 63rd annual Pèlerinage Militaire International (PMI)—or International Military Pilgrimage—staged annually since 1958 at one of the world’s holiest Catholic pilgrimage sites where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Bernadette Soubirous in a series of apparitions exactly 100 years prior.

Archbishop Broglio and Bishop Burbidge Respond to Senate Vote on Veterans Affairs Abortion Rule

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, April 19, the U.S. Senate voted 51 to 48 to reject a Congressional Review Act resolution that would overturn an interim final rule from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) which added abortion to veterans’ and dependents’ health benefits packages. Archbishop Timothy Broglio Appoints New Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia

WASHINGTON, DC – As a sign of continual pastoral concern for those entrusted to the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio announced today that Monsignor Jeffrey Laible, the current Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia, has agreed to serve the faithful at Maxwell Air Force Base.  The role is crucial for the pastoral care of those serving at the installation, those at the base for training or additional studies, and those with a long association to the chapel. He hopes to take the reins from Father Linn Harbour, the current GS (General Schedule) priest who is about to begin a well-deserved and long-awaited retirement from those responsibilities. To serve as the new Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia, Archbishop Broglio has appointed the Rev. Msgr. Anthony Frontiero, S.T.D. (see curriculum vitae), currently the Pastor of St. Matthew Parish in Windham, New Hampshire.  The new Vicar General will assume his responsibilities on July 1,  2023.
