Knights of Columbus Assembly Donates $10,000 for Formation of Future Catholic U.S. Military Chaplains

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A local assembly of the Knights of Columbus (K of C) has donated more than $10,000 to the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), to support the formation of future Catholic U.S. Military chaplains. Archbishop Michael J. Curley Assembly #383 of College Park, MD, raised the money in a year-long “pass the helmet” campaign at local parishes. On Saturday, assembly leaders James D. Williams, Jr., and Arthur H. Blenkle presented the check for $10,083.49 to His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, USA, at the Edwin Cardinal O’Brien Pastoral Center in Washington.

Co-Sponsored Seminarian Enrollment Rises to 43 as Back-to-School Season Attracts Prospective New Catholic Military Chaplains

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Back-to-school season brings promise of relief for a severe Catholic chaplain shortage in the U.S. Military. WASHINGTON, D.C. – At 72, retired U.S. Navy Lieutenant John Odell runs three days a week, five to six miles at a stretch. “My doctor told me that running was better than any pill he could prescribe, so I figured running’s doing good for me,” the veteran naval cryptologic maintenance officer quipped. On Oct. 8, Mr. Odell, of Penrose, N.C., will run through the streets of the nation’s capital in the U.S. Army’s 33rd annual Army Ten-Miler. Archdiocese to Hold First-Ever Military Young Adult Conference

NORTHBROOK, ILL. – The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), will hold its first-ever Military Young Adult Conference this weekend in Northbrook, Ill., just outside Chicago. The conference, called “Serving as a Missionary Disciple,” will bring members of the AMS Office of Evangelization together with active-duty Catholic ministry leaders based around the country, ages 18 to 35, and if married, their spouses, for a group encounter at the Techny Towers Conference and Retreat Center. Over the course of the June 16-18 gathering, participants will explore ways to enhance their faith journey and develop ministerial leadership skills that they can carry back to their home base Catholic communities and further build the body of Christ.
