The AMS has cancelled its 12th Annual Benefit on Nov. 21 due to COVID-19 and related ongoing restrictions. Archbishop Broglio has asked the faithful to consider giving to make up for the budget shortfall.
THE VATICAN – Two prospective Catholic U.S. Military chaplains were ordained transitional deacons on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020, at St. Peter’s Basilica. The Reverend Mr. Patrick Costello, LT, USNR, and the Rev. Mr. Madison Hayes, 2d Lt, USAFR, both hope eventually to serve as priests on active duty with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS).
EMMITSBURG, MD – The annual Pilgrimage for the Sea Services will be celebrated this year on Oct. 4 at 3:30 p.m. EDT at the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 339 South Seton Avenue, in Emmitsburg, MD. The principal celebrant and homilist will be the Most Reverend Joseph L. Coffey, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA. Bishop Coffey is a retired U.S. Navy chaplain.

WASHINGTON, DC – The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), has received many messages and is well aware of the news items published over the past few days about the decision by the U.S. Navy regarding the pastoral care of Catholics at Naval Base (NB) Coronado, Naval Support Activity (NSA) Monterey, and NB Ventura County—all of which are currently served by civilian Catholic priests willing and able to continue their ministry. In what’s being described as a “cost-cutting” move, the Navy has announced it will cancel the contracts of civilian Catholic priests who serve these military faith communities. Meanwhile on-base Protestant services, led by active-duty non-Catholic chaplains, will continue as usual.

Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, USA, celebrated the combined annual Memorial Mass for all who serve or have served in the U.S. Military, and the Memorial Mass for Vietnam War hero Father Vincent R. Capodanno, M.M., Servant of God. The two Masses, normally celebrated separately at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, were combined and moved to the main chapel of the Edwin Cardinal O’Brien Pastoral Centerdue to social distancing guidelines imposed by the City of Washington, D.C., over the COVID-19 pandemic.
SEASIDE, CA –Father Tyler R. Harris, 2d Lt, USAFR, a prospective United States Air Force chaplain, was ordained a Catholic priest on Saturday, August 22, in Seaside, CA. Father Harris, 40, plans eventually to serve on active duty as a chaplain in the U.S. Air Force with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS) after an initial three years of pastoral service in his home Diocese of Monterey.

The gift comprises funds raised over the past two years by the Texas Women’s Project, headed by Ms. Mary Evans, outgoing First Lady of the Texas Knights of Columbus and wife of Immediate Past State Deputy T. Mark Evans.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Due to restrictions set by the Honorable Muriel Bowser, Mayor of Washington, D.C., constraints have been placed on celebrating, in the usual manner, the combined 26th Annual Memorial Mass and Father Vincent Capodanno Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
WASHINGTON, DC – The National Catholic Committee on Scouting® (NCCS) has awarded Eagle Scout Benjamin Rawald of Del Rio, TX, a first-place $5,000 college scholarship through the Emmett J. Doerr Memorial Scout Scholarship Fund. ORLANDO, FL – Father Adam D. Marchese, (2LT) USAR, a candidate for United States Military chaplaincy, was ordained a Catholic priest on Saturday, July 25, in his home Diocese of Orlando, FL.
