Co-Sponsored Seminarian Program Receives $60,550 from First Lady’s Charity of Texas Knights of Columbus

HOUSTON, TX –– The Texas State Council of the Knights of Columbus recently presented the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), a check for $60,550 to support the AMS Co-Sponsored Seminarian Program(CSP). The gift comprises funds raised over the past two years by the Texas Women’s Project, headed by Ms. Mary Evans, outgoing First Lady of the Texas Knights of Columbus and wife of Immediate Past State Deputy T. Mark Evans.

Eagle Scout Benjamin Rawald of Laughlin Air Force Base Catholic Community Earns $5,000 College Scholarship

WASHINGTON, DC – The National Catholic Committee on Scouting® (NCCS) has awarded Eagle Scout Benjamin Rawald of Del Rio, TX, a first-place $5,000 college scholarship through the Emmett J. Doerr Memorial Scout Scholarship Fund. Mr. Rawald, 18, is a member of the Catholic Community at Laughlin Air Force Base (AFB), which lies within the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). He is a member of Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Troop 280 and Crew 280 sponsored by Elks Lodge #837.

Archdiocese Celebrates Priestly Ordination of Prospective New Catholic U.S. Army Chaplain in Florida

ORLANDO, FL – Father Adam D. Marchese, (2LT) USAR, a candidate for United States Military chaplaincy, was ordained a Catholic priest on Saturday, July 25, in his home Diocese of Orlando, FL. WASHINGTON, DC – SALUTE, the hard-copy news magazine published quarterly by the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA(AMS), has been honored with a first-place certificate in the 2020 Catholic Press Awards, sponsored by the Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada. The judge’s panel, which consists of media and academic professionals, deemed the Summer 2019 edition’s color cover (pictured) the year’s best for a small-size magazine, earning SALUTEthe top honor in the “Best Cover for Color” category. The award citation recognizes SALUTE Editor Jo Ann Redmond for her outstanding work.

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS –Father Miguel Flores-Perez, (1LT) USAR, a prospective United States Army chaplain, was ordained a Catholic priest on Saturday, June 27, in Round Rock, TX. Father Flores-Perez, 42, plans eventually to serve on active duty as a chaplain in the U.S. Army with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS) after an initial three years of pastoral service in his home Diocese of Austin.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Honorable Muriel Bowser, Mayor of Washington, D.C., issued an order authorizing—effective Monday, June 22, 2020—Phase Two for reopening the District of Columbia from the March 25 coronavirus shutdown. Based on the Mayor’s Order for Phase Two and the recommendations for successive phases by the ReOpen DC Advisory Group, Archbishop Timothy Broglio has approved a framework for reopening the Edwin Cardinal O’Brien Pastoral Center, home base of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS).
