WALDFISCHBACH-BURGALBEN, GERMANY — The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), welcomed a record thirty-one U.S. Air Force couples to Waldfischbach-Burgalben, Germany, this past weekend for an AMS Marriage Enrichment Retreat. The couples, from the Holy Family Catholic Community at Ramstein Air Base, about 20 miles away, all participated in the April 11-12 retreat at the Maria Rosenberg Pilgrimage Site and Spiritual Center — a site run by the Diocese of Speyer in southwest Germany. Fathers Emeka C. Okwuosa, Ch, Capt, USAF, and Joseph Deichert, Ch, Col, USAF (Ret.), worked with the planning committee and the facilitator, AMS Vice-Chancellor for Evangelization Mark Moitoza, Th.D., D.Min., to organize the retreat.

MENLO PARK, CA – A record-high thirty-seven prospective Catholic U.S. Military chaplains gathered at St. Patrick’s Seminary this past weekend for the annual spring discernment retreat for young men discerning a possible “vocation within a vocation” as both Catholic priests and military chaplain officers on active duty. The Vocations Office of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), holds two of these retreats each year—one in the spring on the West Coast and another in the fall on the East Coast—as part of its ongoing strategy to relieve a shortage of Catholic priests on active duty.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Tuesday evening, April 8, His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, USA, and President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), blessed and consecrated sacred oils for sacramental use over the coming year in Catholic communities on U.S. Military sites worldwide, and in the nation’s VA Medical Centers. WASHINGTON, DC — Father Gregg M. Caggianelli, Ch, Col, USAF, will be ordained an Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), on Friday, May 9, in the main chapel of Saint Vincent de Paul Seminary in Boynton Beach where he has served for many years. Nearly 150 U.S. Military personnel, patients, hospital staff, and others gathered for Ash Wednesday Mass at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, which took place soon after Archbishop Broglio brought ashes and Holy Communion to bedridden patients in their rooms.

Pope Francis has authorized the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints to promulgate a decree that Father Kapaun “offered his life” prematurely out of Christian charity. The decree opens the path forward for Father Kapaun’s Beatification.

The pontifical appointment of Father Gregg M. Caggianelli, Ch Col USAF, a nearly 30-year veteran of the United States Air Force, brings to five the total number of auxiliary bishops serving under Archbishop Broglio.

Bishop Muhm welcomed 58 active-duty personnel, contractors, and sons to the annual AMS European Men’s Retreat for those who serve at the Schoenstatt Retreat Center February 7-9.

ROME – By decree of Pope Francis, 2025 is a Jubilee year, a time for forgiveness and reconciliation. U.S. Military Catholics will celebrate the occasion this week with an extraordinary pilgrimage to the Eternal City. At the peaks of their spiritual journey, Sunday Mass with the Holy Father and the opportunity to pass through the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica will beckon pilgrims. The five-day pilgrimage overlaps the Holy See’s Jubilee of the Armed Forces, Police, and Security Personnel for Catholic first-responders worldwide, set in Rome this weekend.

Archbishop Broglio issued a statement today on the multi-fatal mid-air collision last night between a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter and American Eagle Flight 5342.
