WASHINGTON, D.C. – As of today, the Edwin Cardinal O’Brien Pastoral Center is closed to the public until further notice due to concern about spread of the novel coronavirus. The Pastoral Center on Michigan Avenue in northeast Washington is headquarters for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). It is normally open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio ordered the temporary shutdown in response to Mayor Muriel Bowser’s May 24 order temporarily ceasing onsite non-essential business activities in the District of Columbia and prohibiting gatherings of ten or more people. Mayor Bowser’s order is effective from last night at 10:00 p.m. through April 24, 2020, unless extended, rescinded, superseded, or amended. AMS staffers who are able will telework from home and be accessible by email or telephone. Any updates on the status of the Edwin Cardinal O’Brien Pastoral Center will be posted on the AMS website, www.milarch.org.
FORTH WORTH, TX — The Rev. Mr. Jason Allan was among a half-dozen candidates for the Catholic priesthood ordained transitional deacons on Thursday, March 19, in a solemn Mass at St. Patrick Cathedral in Fort Worth. A seminarian at the Theological College, the national seminary of the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, Deacon Allan is on track to become a U.S. Navy chaplain with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The new deacon, 26, hopes to be ordained a priest on May 15, 2021, and go on active duty after three years of pastoral service in his home Diocese of Fort Worth.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Pope Francis is calling on Christians everywhere to respond to the novel coronavirus pandemic by joining him in praying the Lord’s Prayer at 7:00 a.m. ET (noon in Rome) on Wednesday, March 25. That day marks the Feast of the Annunciation, when the faithful celebrate the angel Gabriel’s visitation to the Virgin Mary, announcing the Incarnation of the Word. DENVER – The Reverend Mr. Anthony Davis, ENS, USN, a candidate for the Catholic priesthood and United States Military chaplaincy, was ordained a transitional deacon on Saturday, Feb. 22, in Denver, CO. He hopes eventually to serve as a Catholic chaplain in the United States Navy with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The new deacon is tentatively scheduled to be ordained a priest next year and hopes to go on active duty following a three-year period of pastoral service in his home Archdiocese of Denver.
