On Tuesday, Dec. 3, the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, (AMS), will participate in #iGiveCatholic. Now in its fifth year, #iGiveCatholic is a 24-hour online giving event for the faithful in multiple archdioceses and dioceses worldwide to unite and raise as many charitable dollars as possible in a single day. #iGiveCatholic presents an opportunity for Catholics to donate and support the organizations that enrich our souls on #GivingTuesday.

The Field Afar: The Life of Father Vincent Capodanno Now Airing on U.S. ABC-TV Affiliates

NEW YORK, NY – Castletown Media has partnered with the Interfaith Broadcasting Commission to release the feature length documentary, The Field Afar, about Servant of God, Father Vincent Capodanno, MM, to select ABC-TV affiliates throughout the United States. Support Free Exercise of Faith in U.S. Military Through Triennial National Collection and AMS Appeal

WASHINGTON, D.C. – American Catholics will have a rare opportunity early next month to offer charitable support for pastoral care to the faithful in the United States Military and the nation’s Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Centers. A special second collection will be taken up in parishes nationwide for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). This special collection for the AMS is taken only once every three years with the approval of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). Most parishes will take up the Triennial National Collection at Sunday Masses the weekend of Nov. 9-10, or as otherwise determined by an individual diocese or parish. Military Catholics who attend Mass at nondenominational base chapels where no second collections are taken may nevertheless give the same weekend through the AMS Appeal.

Annual Pilgrimage for the Sea Services Planned for Oct. 6 at the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton

EMMITSBURG, MD – Come to the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton and pray for servicemen and women at the Annual Pilgrimage for the Sea Services on Sunday, Oct. 6, in Emmitsburg, MD. Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton is the Patroness of the Sea Services, which include the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine and Public Health Service. The late John Joseph Cardinal O’Connor advocated for her designation as the Patroness of the Sea Services in 1977 when he served as the U.S. Navy Chief of Chaplains. The 3:00 p.m. (EDST) Mass will be celebrated by the Most Reverend Michael C. Barber, SJ, Bishop of Oakland, CA, who also served for many years as a chaplain in the Naval Reserve.

Eagle Scout Joseph Lepak of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Earns $2,000 Scholarship

ARLINGTON, VA – The National Catholic Committee on Scouting has awarded 18-year old Eagle Scout and high school graduate Joseph Lepak of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall a $2,000 college scholarship through the Emmett J. Doerr Memorial Scout Scholarship Fund. Mr. Lepak is one of seven recipients to receive a Doerr scholarship this year, and he is the first member of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), to be so honored. The AMS Office of Evangelization encourages scouting as an effective way to promote a comprehensive approach to Catholic Youth Ministry. The development of leadership skills along with opportunities to grow in faith, through religious emblems and activities, makes scouting a dynamic opportunity for military-connected youth. Mr. Lepak was nominated for the scholarship by His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services.
